Daughter Jenny held feelings about New Mexico.  Specifically,  for the WIND.  And although It could be harsh,  i continued to love It.  I'd thought i would miss Wind here….but i'm not because it has been so present.  So really present this winter,  the second winter,  more than last,  my first.  Those atmospheric rivers have been driven by Wind,  it's been severe.   In the forest over there,  up and to the far side of Campsite C,  3 extremely large trees have gone down.  and it's a forest,  so when an extremely big tree goes down,  it takes many smaller trees in it's Fall.   Up there today, i stood.  Just stood,  because i couldn't think of anything else to do.   I can't think of anything anyone might do next.  Do you let them lie?,  atop of live trees?  Crushing them over?  And even if the answer would be no,  how is it possible to cut them?  remove them?  from the place they fell?

the forest floor is very quiet and easy.  In one week,  moss has covered many things.  Completely.   Earth would take back those trees,  eventually.  In many years,  they would fall incrementally Down,  to be taken INTO Earth.   Become Earth.  What is our place here?

What is our place here?

Trees fall here in Maine all the time. We drag them with the riding mower—-to a place away from the house. Way back of the property. They return to the Earth in Time

if you cut the fallen tree away, the trees that are getting squashed will recover and you could use the tree for firewood

I think you could use a generous friend with a chain saw, forest knowledge and willingness for a few hours labor (maybe part paid with firewood and part with gratitude). Ideally our place might be that of wise care takers. It goes without saying (so I say that) love leads the way and saves the day.

Our place is to witness and think and ask questions and consider. Many trees fall here. Some become firewood but the fallen clutter often becomes shelter for animals.

I am loving the images of moss and lichen sharing space
As for trees … we had one fall right after we bought our current home. I thought I could take it apart branch by branch … and soon realized my folly. A fellow with a chain saw dispatched it in no time at all. I think Michelle’s idea of offering the wood to anyone willing to come cut it up makes great good sense. On the other hand, leaving it may cause it to become fuel for a future fire.

Leaving it where it fell is considered good practice these days as it encourages insects and small rodents, but it might be as well to try and release the trapped trees and maybe cut the trunks up a bit.
I still read your posts everyday though I only comment once in a blue moon, it is lovely to keep up with the developments on the land.

If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears, it just continues. Amazing how the life evolves around a fallen tree. But you are land stewards now with fire management and it is your home too.. many things to consider.. your ability and necessity.

i wish the ones that fall here would be small enough for
that…such a good resolution. They, however, are huge.

these trees that are falling are old. almost 100ft pines.
Most have been dying for a long time, some are almost
hollow inside. The Oaks don’t fall.

there is much brush, fallen “clutter”, shelter. The
dilemma here is Fuel for the Dragon. But then again,
actually doing something about it is such a herculean task. There are huge trees.

the wood is not good firewood. Is pine, and is cellulose
    at the point of falling.

i’m just HAPPY to find you here now and then…Thank You…and yes…to cut the branches that hold trapped
    trees. That at least.
    Love to you

Montana has volunteers from the fire department who come and cut up trees so as to not leave food for their dragon. I don’t know a good use for pine. Maybe the fire department might have some suggestions.
