Alyssia  had an appointment at the VA in Sacramento.  At 3pm.  an awkward hour.   So Emrie came around 12:30, 1 give or take.   Julian decided to go with her,  school is out,  he thought it was going to be interesting (it wasn't)  so it was me and Emrie.  We were off to campsite B and the new experimental compost pile.  No hesitation.  It seems it might be true,   that some things run in the blood.

Marti linked me to blog of SusanTweitt who i remember from my old days of StoryCircle Network when i still thought i might become a Writer.    Susan Tweitt is giving herself to the concept of Climate Garden….as in Victory Garden days.  I am reading there.

Bueno: Susan wrote, ” We need a new Victory Garden movement to help reverse climate change and restore our nation. Gardens build community, uniting us across political, cultural, class, and racial divisions. They add beauty and joy to our daily lives. Let’s grow a Climate Garden movement for our planet’s future—and our own.”

So timely this, for me, and the talk of gardens and growing. I live next to a river, that flooded horrendously 2 years ago, and with a levee bank in my back yard. Council is repairing the levee and I met with them here as they required me to sign for permission to enter my property to undertake repair works. It seems tnese repairs aren’t going to be just at the waterline, but the whole bank……and they’re going to rip out my shade and habitat-providing mature trees to do this. A 50 yr old mango that gives the most blessed shade and provides protection to the back of my house from the hot western sun and storms that also come from the west. I’m devastated and gutted! It will change the wnole micro-climate of my yard, shade loving plants will get fried in the sub-tropical heat, and my veggie patch will have no protection either from the sun in summer. I’ve been trying to put into words how this is not just about the desecration of the physical space but the psychological impact for me as well and Marti your words, and Susan’s have helped me name those feelings, put them into sentences and be able to appeal coherently to Council to not do this.

If I lived near Nanette, I would go knocking on doors to petition Not To Sign, and give out bottles of white out for those that need to remove their signatures!
