this is understandable.   It was old (?)   or   diseased?   but it fell  with the weight of it's wetness during Winter Rain.   Easy to see that all its interior was already transitioning by decomposition.   Wind broke it.

but then….this.   These Oaks have multiple trunks rising from the same Earth Body.   This is how Oaks are here.   With this one,  two of the trunks remain and appear totally viable.  Two had broken off at the base of Earth.

they appear to be healthy.  The wood is solid and hard.   But they broke off.    We stand.  Over and over,  there,   asking aloud the same questions over and over,   going over and over what we "know",  about why trees fall and we are left Wondering.   Maybe that's how it will always be.   Jenny wanted to clear the path.   They had fallen on our best path from B down to A….across the Goat Path there.   She and her man worked.    quietly.   She has feelings about all this.   Her love for this Hill is more than i might ever know.   It's fluid tho,  i am finding out.   She is Fluid,  i am finding out.   We learn even tho we don't know what we are learning.   Earth is Love

is the path an old road? when soil levels are changed with road building if soil is piled up on the roots of a tree it can cause damage that often doesn’t show up as die back til about 5 years later. Also a few years of drought conditions can cause this sort of damage.

like people, I find, sometimes trees are just worn out by all they have been through, often a story never told, maybe too long a story to know, and then suddenly, so it seems, they just fall over.

I wonder, do trees have a sense beyond our imagining that enables them to know when they are too many for the available resources? that one or more must go?

The woods around my house have way too many trees in very thin soil so they are not healthy and fall or just die standing and need to be cut down so the others might have a chance to thrive.

What I love best is how the hill gives you and Jen a lot of very tangible common ground from which to learn more about each other in UNcommon ways. this is a very beautiful aspect of what is being built at least for me in thes circle’s role of bearing witness.

We could all live to be a hundred and never totally understand the true nature of things. But the love that is being nurtured between the two of you .. that I understand.

there has been no human activity here. none since
the First People lived here. I would guess it IS
the result of drought….for years California experienced
drought. But it’s something else too

Sometimes the Spirits living in the trees leave. Maybe they were ready for a different journey or maybe they got old. When the Spirit leaves the physical death follows.
