didn't have time to stitch a stitch today but just stopping now and then,  looking at the pile of this Blanket Letter,  just seeing how one scrap lays  next to  another,  just seeing almost all of those strips stitched in place and secured…enough.  More than enough for Happiness.  and how lucky is that.

right now,  on the left,  in the window,  a large fly got caught in a strand of remaining web that i actually can't see.   There was too much web there….the spider extending out and had attached to the cupboard door.   the whole window was webbed.  one of those cellar spiders….the skinny ones?   and the other day i tapped on it….called her attention,  indicated my intention and slowly began taking it out with the broom.  She took off.   Has been silent over there until just now and this fly but from the bottom of the window,  under the table,  a small one of Her appears….moves up on the web i can't see,  but doesn't go far.  I've changed everything.

and now we know what had been/is  eating the Garden.   They put a wildlife cam up last Sunday.  One of the motion sensitive things?   Took the thing home today to look on the computer and Lo and Behold….a deer.   Last Tuesday.    a Tuesday Deer.  The only thing i noticed this week ….missing…..were a couple large squash leaves.   There's one yellow crookneck and two zuchinnis growing and as of earlier today,  fine.  Since i've covered the jalapeno and the bell peppers with the wire frame and  cloth stuff,  they have been fine.   The bok choy remains uncovered.  ???   So…a deer.   I am filled with Wonder,  imagining her jumping the fence and quietly making her way to the Garden,  walking along,  tasting a leaf here and there.  They are so Big,  these deer…you'd think there would have been a telltale sign.  No.  None except missing leaves.

i  youtubed and came across a sure fire solution of mixing one egg yolk,  1 Tbsp baking powder,  1 liter water.  Spray on.  But then,  what about the blossoms?,  the Bees?,  the pollination?  she mentions sticky in the video…and so…no…..   So i'm thinking, maybe just share.  the Findhorn thing.   She is CareFull….does not ever walk on anything or pull anything out like the Goats do.  She just takes some.   Maybe we can be just ok enough.   No way to know but try.

so one more day of extreme heat and then back to balmy low 90's.  It was ok,  really.  Jenny chain sawed some.  Moved branches.   Next week,  the Chipper comes.

Lovely cloth dreams when time allows. I feel sorry for that spider and glad for the fly. Deer have needs. I wonder how affected they are by the fires…loss of habitat. She choose the right garden for sure. Hope that works out okay. Big love to you and yours.

for the spider, yes. have feelings about that. The fly
not so much…it’s one of those huge metalic green ones
that as soon as they manage to fly through an open door, make a b line to the compost.
The Deer here have ample supply of everything. They just LIKE things…but then, me too. I hope it works out ok too.

they ARE. I have seen one doe and a yearling in the spring. Not since. But there is a deerpath up from Old Olive. She travels. I now think as i write this, i did see them across the fence at the neighbors maybe 2 months ago.
The ARE. Very Large. and that’s part of my WONDER…
    that she can
    BING
    over the fence
and slowly walk up to the Wall Garden. The camera shows her above and AT the retaining wall. These are still shots, not moving video.
it’s fascinating, really, to think of her there.
Before Jenny and Alyssia got this land, they moved through it a lot and slept here. Maybe it was THEIR campsite.
    I think of this.
All around, there are homes, but also a lot of wild land inbetween around. But still. That this once was FOR them.
How we have changed that. it’s no small thing.

    there is.
    so much
    to consider.
i am kind of stunned. I did not imagine the deer.
I’d decided it was Quail….Bill in New Mex told me
how his friend in East Mountain’s garden was experiencing
the same thing from Quail. We have Quail. so i was sure.
But…here it is in black and white.
that’s eerie ..that we have black and white still shots
of her very personal life. Her very CARE full life…
that’s what is sticking so strong, that she is CAREFULL,
tentative. They are very very BIG Beings.

I miss our Hill Country deer … how I would bring scraps out to the compost after dinner and they would be there, waiting …
and the cloth … love seeing it loose and becoming

Deer are massive. They don’t bing, they leap and thud and if you are nearby you can hear the ground shake. They do step carefully and seem to move through nibbling. If there is one.
I knew it was a deer.
I love the letter concept. A lot.

The deer are eating my Redhaven peaches now- left them alone when green- but now ripening. Each day the remains of 8 to 10. I think they came to eat acorns off the lawn.
So, I am picking peaches. Before they are ripe. Not happy about that. The flavor is best if ripened on tree. I have an 8 foot fence around the garden. Deer will not jump that high. I have also used foil pie pans- the disposable ones. On string. they flutter and wave. Deer have odd eyesight. I sometimes have more than a dozen in the yard- now that Riley’s scent is gone. They do not like dogs.

i’ve never seen more than the two, Doe and fawn. When Jenny’s father was here last year and the year before, he stayed at an AirBnB a few miles from here, over near the Lake. There was a deck, Jenny says, maybe 10 ft up and they would sit there in the evening and watch as a small herd made their way, back yard to back yard, over fences and walls as if it was nothing. There is a lot of federal and state wildlands all around.
Tomorrow is Tuesday. If she has a Pattern, she will
    take the zuchinni.

yes…i’ve read about your pie pans on your blog.
    i won’t do that. I don’t know why, but i won’t.
And this fence is the fence. So…not sure how all of
    it might go.
She must be stealthy. Tay hears many things…is sleeping outside all the time now, but also can’t get into the fence there even if she would hear her. It’s quite a long way away.

They eat what they can get……it’s just this one peach tree- it is the first time it has produced more than ONE peach and I am wanting to share them with friends and daughter.
At the end of Riley’s time here- He and I walked at midnight and the deer would come into the light, into the street and stand and watch us go by- it seemed like they knew his Time was close. Surreal.

Woke up yesterday morning in the UP looking out the window seeing two deer. Just standing so I got to watch for awhile. Finally had to get up but I know seeing deer and looking over the lake are why my visits up north fill be with such peaceful joy. I’m back home today still feeling great fully relaxed. Grace your quilt is coming along beautifully.
