so…why the FAUX of raised bed….it's just surface and probably about 4 inches atop cardboard that is almost  100 percent decomposed from all that rain…the roots of things will have this rich soil held in place with the cut branch pieces.    Part of me is a gardner,  part is about aesthetics…i didn't want it square.  like with boards.  I like it this way.  the roots will find their way through all the  stone and rock.  Slowly it will Become.

i brought my wheelbarrow from N Mex.  then,  Jenny has this one and another similar but larger….neither of those can be used, the slope of the Hill too steep to control the momentum.   This is my little sled.   The one they were using yesterday is about 3 times as big.   It looks like nothing.   But it's a miracle.  Pulls like butter under a lot of weight…keeps steady balance.  the side slits can make use  of bungies…like over piles of stuff…otherwise for a heavy pile of composted Goat shit and hay,  doesn't need anything.  They slip over all the uneven terrain,  over those huge pinecones,  rocks…easy peasy.   I want to send a review to the company.  Truly Excellent.  Efficient.  Tough.  You'd never guess just by looking.

It is already becoming because the soil looks so rich, alive with the giving of what is needed to make things grow…how I would so love to sink my hands into this good soil. When I used to help my Dad in our garden, he would always say, “no gloves, just your hands, la tierra (the earth) needs to feel you caring for it…

I love your organic framing of the faux raised bed … it suits your wide-open spaces on The Hill … these days, geometric beds are a better fit for our postage stamp property, but I have fond memories of the Hill Country gardens that Don tucked in amongst the rocky outcrops
and yes, sleds are such a wonderfully simple solution to hauling stuff … it’s a wonder they aren’t more popular

when I use logs of edging I get too many bugs and slugs, but that’s here, who knows?
I use a tarp for a sled, but this looks great.

I think we need to feel the earth in our hands, too.

Looks like a genuinely real raised bed to me. ;^) Much more aesthetically pleasing than my boxes. As the wood rots, I’m actually considering cement blocks because they don’t rot and they would provide a place to sit. But maybe not, because my garden is small. Maybe just regular bricks to define the beds.
The sled looks great. I can think of places I’ve lived where I could have used one, but here, while I have a bit more than a postage stamp yard, it’s still small enough that my wagon and wheelbarrows are enough.

tarps rip to shreds quickly on the rocks here. And in comparison, hard to pull. i tried that because it was what i did in New Mex. Jenny likes to try stuff. I’m glad.
