the first in how long?….seemingly SO SO long…. a compromise, but one that is a step in the needed direction? and example of the fact, maybe, that it is possible to work together ? i will just rest in it today. the Possibility of things. Tomorrow i'll try to learn more of what this actually is.

Rebecca Solnit has been posting very uplifting stuff on Facebook. For example: “We (her & Terry Tempest Williams) are declaring a climate emergency. Everyone can, in whatever place on Earth they call home. No one needs to wait for politicians any more – we have been waiting for them for decades.”

The irony here is that a climate emergency has been going on for decades, escalating ever year until now, the planet is on fire, literally and figuratively so now, and attention is being paid…we, who have tried to be mindful all of these years, continue to do all we can, regardless of the lack of leadership. We don’t need leaders who give lip service, we show up, stand and face and mindfully carry on as best we can.

you’re right, of course … I sit in my house of privilege, with room for more than two people, with air conditioning and running water and a refrigerator full of good food …
the government that we have is one of our own making, we the people … as a librarian, I suppose I’m a socialist at heart (and here I pause to say that label can convey many shades of meaning … I intend it in the simplest sense of shared investment for use by all) …
I swing between the poles of optimism and cynicism, hope and despair
