Jenny had brought two Sweet Potatoes that had been languishing in her pantry.    Well,  not really,  they were totally Willing,  to be food,  as is,  OR  to go forward into their Next….

anyway,   she set them just inside the gate at B Garden when she came on the weekend.    Just there.   Them.  naked.   lying there.

I have given each of them a tomatoe cage….from the tomatoes that died of the Mystery,  because she read about some guy who just grows potatoes by adding layers of straw…no soil….?    The  cage will hold the straw in place,  maybe.

but sweet potatoes are so easy to "talk" to…so uhhhh,   friendly.   All my life,  since a kid,   i've seen pics of Sweet Potatoes in a glass of water or something,   vining away happily on someone's window sill.   This one i sprinkled a little earth on.   just a little becase it seemed right until i can bring down some dried out  scrap feed that will serve as straw.  I said Metta  for them.

and,   Beth,   for you too.   and then…for me.   and then,   for Us.  and then….for the world.   I think this was inspired by Them.

ahhh … sweet potatoes! What an innovative growing method ~ I’ve grown potatoes in many ways, sweet potato growing here has been dicey, but if I had gotten them growing early this year, they would have been happy to grow in the seems like never-ending heat. Tick and note marks now in my garden journal!
I do have a sweet potato vine on my windowsill, and other “such”! sort of a mini-chaos that pleases me when I wash dishes. I love washing dishes ~ a sort of “prayer of gratitude” for having food to eat and a place to eat, hot and cold running water (luxury), and making a clean spot for more. My idea of wealth ~ all under a roof. Those jars and cups of things growing on a windowsill, also means I have a window to look out of. Just the exuberance of having a spot of Mini-chaos that’s soothing and calm, in a home full of the chaos of unpacking a life, or perhaps better described as packing up a life? Never boring.

I left out perhaps the most important “gratitude” about washing dishes ~ there is a window. that opens. Opens to the air, tilts out so the rain doesn’t come in when open. The first “replacement” that Mr. BaggyPants put on his “honey do” list, when seeing this run-down ancient farmhouse for the first time… ahem … which I had purchased without him seeing ~ was a window over the kitchen sink. Before I mentioned it. Better than diamonds, a new window that opens. Over the kitchen sink.

(((grace))) It has been easy to include myself in metta as a form of self-care and self-compassion but there is such overwhelming tenderness in the receiving. Thank you. Love you. And may your sweet-potatoes thrive.
