This election calls for so much more from me in terms of how to navigate the feelings that rise whenever the “other” candidate is present. These intense feelings are unlike any other emotion that I have felt in my many, many, years of voting so I search for ways to keep myself in check. For me, information is vital and I have many sources that I use including a daily posting from Robert Reich, his Coffee Klatch podcast on Saturdays, political analysis from several sources and good, old fashioned conversations with neighbors and others.
Here where I live, no one has signs out around these apartment complexes. Perhaps, it is because we are renters and fear upsetting our landlords with signs that may not be their choice? I don’t know. I have never been much for signs but I tend to wear my beliefs via t-shirts, tote bags, etc. (to than end, it was especially harrowing at times, to carry my Obama tote bag when I lived in Tennessee!) I live in a 4 unit complex, quiet neighbors but when we do see each other, good conversations and that is how I know that to a one, all are Kamala Harris supporters.
I am waiting for my Harris t-shirt and tote-bag plus to Harris pins to arrive. I ordered them before Kamala had picked Tim Walz as her VP so the t-shirt,tote bag and pins just say Harris. I had hoped to have them before now but the company who makes them was over whelmed with orders. They assure me that my order should arrive in the next few days.
I look forward to wearing my t-shirt, pins and carrying my tote-bag and hopefully engaging in some conversations. It is my way of reaching out to listen, to offer an opinion, to simply engage as a citizen and in doing so, this is how I keep myself in check.
We all have our ways of dealing with these times and so it was with interest to see this info about Sharon Salzberg’s Election Series. I know her to be a wise woman, a Buddhist who personifies the tenants of love, kindness, compassion, joy, etc. I appreciate any and all who seek for ways to handle the collective angst that these times bring.

I wear my Kamala pin in this godforsaken red county. I bought it in Palo Alto, where I lived, and where I was most comfortable living.
