How exciting! I used to love going to the library as a kid. All those riches free to lend!

And this is how we go forward…
When I got my first library card, I felt like I had been given a key to the whole wide world. When I came to New Mexico, I learned that my dearly loved author, Rudolfo Anaya, lived in Albuquerque. I wrote him a fan letter and to my everlasting joy, he wrote back. His letter is one of my treasures. In my letter I told him of my heritage and of how walking through the doors of our local library at the age of 7, getting my first library card, was, as I said, walking into the world. It brought tears to my eyes when in his reply to me, he said the same thing about his childhood.

Two great things…a library card and learning to build. Opening the world and building confidence. 🙂

When I worked at the public library I sometimes worked in the children’s department. Kids like Emrie who saw this as a whole world opening up to them made my day. Thanks. I think this is what HOPE looks like.
