all those library books she borrowed….    she doesn't read one at a time,  but moves around among them.   Overheard her say to her mother…I need bookmarks.   I said…I'll make you some and then didn't.  Why?   like things are lately,  just didn't but today,  out of nowhere,   I did.   It felt good.   I made a bookmark.   I can say that.

Grace~ Ooh, I love this. I love bookmarks…I have a collection of them really…some were my mama’s, some came in books from the store where my beloved ‘finds the best books’ friend works, some are made from teen-year concert ticket stubs, old expired licenses…you name it. And you’ve reminded me that I have one partially made to pass on to grandchildren, when I get to it (no hurry). It has a photo of 7 year old me on it.
On our Thursday walk, at the ancient oak, where the music was happening that day, we saw a dead lizard on the path. I had to stop short to not step on it. There it lay, blue belly to the sky. I felt so sad for it, even knowing that this is a part of things. We both did. J. gently pushed it off the trail and cover it with soft dirt – knowing full well that it will decompose with and without the help of the elements and the other living beings, above or below ground.

A treasure of a book mark for Emrie. Love the lizard tail
When the end of the year arrives, I take the back page of my Irish calendars, where they have each month’s photo in a row and I cut three in a row to use as bookmarks.

You all have given her the greatest gift … with her love of reading she’ll be able to travel wherever and whenever she wants. Having that bookmark lovingly drawn by her great – grandmother is a gift I know she’ll treasure. It is wonderful!!!
