talked to Deb Lacativa on phone today…while things were going on outside….Jenny,  Jeff with  a Bobcat   moving railroad ties up here that Jenny intends to be a retaining wall for the foundation rocks of the new place.   Deb hoped i'd blog all that as it goes and i said i was hesitant…because am always seeing that my descriptions of things  are  not always the reality of what actually is understood to be happening….so many people,  so many  "views"…..

but maybe i'll try.  see how it feels.   

so to repeat…railroad ties…12 i think?   Once in place,  a couple truck loads of rock.   Jenny and i had had a blow out a little over a week ago,  so similar to all those of our life long relationship  but today it seemed to be a live and let live energy with her…so as with everything,  begin again.   And to say….things change over and over.   In the moment…there is a man in Sacramento who builds  from scratch..on site.  He is scheduled to come next Tuesday with his crew and complete in one day.   Thing to remember,  this is a house that is not a house.  Is one room,  8' x 15'.    That's all i want.  all i need.   Enough.

    Grace~ The mixed colors of the Irises look so beautiful together!
    Maybe “tell” with a photo or two and a few words of documentation – like you described the railroad ties and rocks here, but w/ a pic included. And overview.
    Hard for perfect smoothness with so many cooks in the kitchen. I get it.
    When I saw “bobcat”…I had to go back and reread, for what jumped into my head did not fit in your story. Jimi saw a bobcat at the bridge yesterday. I missed it as I was looking towards the sky on the other side of the river. In a flash, it ran across the path in front of us and into the brush that smells like childhood camp and his childhood river experiences.
    I guess in a way…it does fit here after all…because we each see things so differently, even when just meandering across a bridge.

    At long last, a room becomes a home, a home becomes a room. You have waited for so long and it is now becoming real so I send you love and joy as you await this important day.
    I can see your home: warm, inviting, with color, one wall could have your many patchwork cloths, another wall could have your drawings. If you have a few windows, bells could hang free flowing and maybe a trailing plant. Funny but in my minds eye, I also see s small ristra hanging in a window but then, that is what I would do. A table is placed under one of the windows and among other items on the table, your basket of treasures, your drawing pencils, paper, a simple vase or jam jar is filled with colorful Iris, nearby your black mug for tea or coffee. Tina’s quilt and your flower pillowcase pillow lie on a simple bed that is also a couch. Nearby a bookcase overflowing with books and Green Tara and your art by Meinrad Craighhead also displayed. A smaller table with supplies for Emrie and a tiny vase, also with flowers await her visit to old Nana…
    A few questions came to mind::
    Did you need to get a building and zoning permit to have this room on your land? I did some research as I’m sure you all have done and found this:

While structures under 120 sq ft may be exempt from a building permit in some locations, Butte County may have different requirements, according to the Town of Woodside (.gov). A Planning Permit may also be needed.
    Building Permit: A detached accessory structure exceeding 120 square feet in Butte County generally requires a building permit. Your 8 x 15 ft room is exactly 120 sq ft, making it fall into this category. It’s crucial to confirm the specifics with the Butte County Building Division to ensure your project complies with current regulations, according to Golden State Buildings.
    Planning Permit: Even for structures under 120 square feet (if the interpretation differs slightly), a Planning Permit may still be required. The Planning Department can clarify this specific requirement.”
    Since I know that you don’t have electricity or septic, I’m assuming that you will continue to use the travel trailer for cooking and bathroom and continue to use battery generators.
    Are you allowed to choose the number of windows for your room?
    Will the walls be insulated?
    Can you specify that fire resistant materials be used to build your room?

    Grace this is exciting … I do hope you’ll share some of the process and that you’re excited about the changes that are happening. It has been a long time! Mothers and daughters … I get it having my 50 year old Nikki living under the same roof with her dad and I is not always blissful but what in life is perfect all the time.
