in reference to a post from Acey   Sparklinglotusink.typepad.com   Nichobella

The Daughter Cloth.    just after Jude's patchwork Beasts….Cloth Weaving….made of torn strips of very used household cloth,  stained and with holes.   Wove and stitched while standing on a ladder.   It hung on that Beam into the ROOM in New Mex.  That other Life.   I remember vividly the Ecstasy of learning i could weave a World if i needed to.

I stuck it in the Uhaul the day she left N. Mex for the first time..the day of the Intervention  when her dad,  my son (her brother) Alyssia and i pried her,  some of her belongings,  2 dogs and the Goats out of a crazy marriage.   I said i would finish it  Someday.   Someday,  if i ever came to California.    There could be a lot of words here.  But i lost this post once already and i think because i don't need to put all those words here.,  or shouldn't.     But i found it today,  lost in the black hole  of that cabinet in the bathroom.

it's Big.  Too big for this modest clothesline

a good stick helped

but not enough….had to fold it over about 18 inches

i look at it today…it's Raw in many ways.   I see that i have learned a LOT over the years.   But i look at this….this image of a young Goat  setting out on a long trail,  UP.   This was long before this Hill.   This was the Goats first time in California.  They came back.  And now they came again….and this image has proven True.     Now What?,  i think?

Wow, Grace. Wow to The Cloth, to the Story, to the Lives represented. I enlarged the photo just to see all the work that went into it. It should hang from a metaphorical mountaintop!

Tender, this heart filled quilt that foretold a story that is now based in fact. Raw, yes but that is what gives this so much strength…of how you moved up and down that ladder to weave those long pieces of cloth, weaving into this loving quilt, the notion/idea/ that Jenny’s dream of a goat herd, on a piece of land in CA, could one day become a reality and so it has, and this massive talisman cloth/quilt holds deep love and on going story and is simply, beautiful.

    such a joy-full little critter … I smile
and then I couldn’t help seeing/thinking that two edges, either top and bottom, or the two sides, could be folded in and become the back of a longer, narrower cloth … to what end I haven’t a clue … just because, I guess

And that is what making quilts is all about. A living history of stitches that bring the past and future into one wonderful things. I could never understand why people don’t get that. A quilt is a gift of our living spirit that will outlive us all.

I notice that there’s a shadow circle. It looks like a dream catcher. The stick looks like it’s trying to hold up the mighty oak! Maybe words of hope and gratitude? A little bit of sorrow, too…. xo

I echo others in saying “wow!” I love this Big Cloth as Jude would say. This piece speaks so much to me in light of some of the quilts that I see today that are called Modern Quilts with lots of sharp lines and bright colors. They are well-executed but have no character (at least to me). But here I feel I could sink in to it and wrap it around me feeling warmth and love.
PS In looking at the photo in a larger version, I am so inspired by this piece as I have a small vintage cloth much like your center which just opened up thoughts as to what to do with it.
