so…often i would get a Cloth this far.   and it would be enough.  i'd leave it.  move on.   There are several back there in that room like this.    But it has my attention and i want to continue…to  "finish"  it,   whatever that might mean?????    Everything is here.  Collage,  pencil,  ink,  Inktense,  Deb's Thread,  kantha.   Finish

it.   Take whatever Time that might mean..   For no known Purpose.

Alyssia has begun with a new Group and is sharing her "homework" with me.     it's about Acceptance and Commitment.   this is from the second meeting.    List 10 Values and 10 Principles. you "have".      work with these and see if the list narrows and narrows down .   To Core.   maybe 3.   Core Values.  At first this seems ok,  but as i go,  it becomes full of question.   I love this.  No longer being in a world  with  access to such,  it is a real gift.

just the "words"   Values   Principles     What is the difference?   and then….that term   Ethics     arises

the best, most memorable course I took for my masters in library science was an ethics course … it was both affirming and informing … formative

The question I ask myself:: have my principles/values changed with the passage of time ? My answer is NO but how I approach what matters to me has changed from my youthful intensity, often, stridency, to mellowness, for the most part! as aging and life experiences have shown me that listening, staying quiet to hear others rather than the sound of my own voice, is such a big key in building community.

    I’m curious how/what you’ll change/add to this.
I can’t think of any values to winnow. LOVE (agape) is all I come up with. I think I’ve already done the winnowing because when I answer Marti’s question, I would say no, but I’m nowhere near as persnickety about details. Really, to me, everything boils down to ‘love one another.’

Wouldn’t a basic ethics course be a useful high school graduation requirement, along with a basic life and finance course? I dream. I dream of less ignorance. So many children don’t go on to college. An open can of worms, I guess.

Winnowing the list…. To a few words, or a few all-encompassing ones? I might try that exercise. Her class sounds thoughtfully energizing.
My email is not allowing me to open them. I have to call Apple when I find my words. I hope it’s simple.
I love that you include crows in your life and art. My love of ravens is similar. This cloth of yours is a big story.

I suppose I feel that we are who we are in basic terms. Maybe I even believe that most people are well intentioned, or good as mom used to say. Being too specific creates hard rules that come too close to dogma. And for me that is where the problems start. I guess I would say, just go softly with what you feel is fair. Fairness can grow with experience.

I’ve participated in a couple classes about this as part of trainings for work, including looking at the words “values,” and “principals…” the idea of an “ethical code of conduct.” What I have come to think for myself is that words are too small for this. Sentences, paragraphs, maybe even more…more helpful.

I guess I’d say that I too have mellowed with age some, but more will morph – I’m sure. I can tell when I see youngers than me at work, displaying thoughts in ways I would have at their age (10 years past)…I can’t wrap my mind around any more…for now.
